* Starting Point 1 is at Cam Ranh Bay. Cam Ranh Bay was a strategic location since the 19th Century all the way through the Vietnam War in the 20th Century. This was the Russian Staging Area for the Battle of Tsushima and the Japense Staging Ground for the invasion of British Malya and British Borneo. The Japanese base was destroyed in January 1945 during Operation Gratitude. Cam Rahn Bay later developed by the US as a military installation. Later it was turned over to the South Vietnamese Governmentand later fell to North Vietnam. Then it became an important Cold War Naval Base for the Soviets. It was only in 2002 that the lease agreement between Vietnam and Russia ended and the base was turned over to Vietnam. Currently it is a major base of the Vietnamese Navy.
* As per checking available sources, we are unable to confirm if there was indeed Japanese Airbase or any Airfield during the 1930-1940's on the exact location of the Land Base for this map. The location of the Airbase is near the area of Cam Rahn Bay and is assumed to be the location of old US Air Base was and currently used by the Vietnam Air Force.
