* [[wikipedia:Plan R 4|Plan R 4]] was a British plan to invade Norway and Sweden, to interrupt the flow of iron ore from those countries to Germany. It was preempted by the German invasion; forces being assembled for it were hastily sent to Norway to fight the Germans.
* [[wikipedia:Operation Weserübung|Operation Weserübung]] was the German invasion of Norway and Denmark. Denmark was occupied as a staging ground for movement further northwards. The port of Narvik, as the primary transshipment point for Swedish iron ore, was a priority target; the German forces were initially able to take control, before being forced out by Allied land forces. Then the German invasion of France drew Allied attention away; British and French troops were withdrawn, and the German forces were able to defeat the remaining Norwegian army units.
